The nominees for the 91st Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning, with A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody among the top nominees. In total, A Star Is Born earned eight nods, while Bohemian Rhapsody is up for five Oscars, with both films nominated for Best Picture.
Lady Gaga was nominated for Best Actress for her role in A Star Is Born, as was her single “Shallow.” Gaga is also the second person to be nominated for Best Actress and Best Original Song in the same year. The first was Mary J. Blige just a year ago. The remake of the classic film also earned nods for Best Picture, Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliott), Cinematography, Sound Mixing and Adapted Screenplay.
The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is up for Best Picture, with Rami Malek nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of the late Freddie Mercury. Bohemian Rhapsody was also nominated for Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
Other notable music-related nominations include Kendrick Lamar‘s “All the Stars” from Black Panther, which is up against “I’ll Fight” from RBG (sung by Jennifer Hudson), “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns, “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (sung by Willie Watson & Tim Blake Nelson) and the aforementioned “Shallow.”
The Best Picture nominees are Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice.
The 91st Annual Academy Awards will be handed out Sunday, February 24 on ABC.
