LCD Soundsystem earn their first-ever #1 album, as their comeback record American Dream debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200. It is the first new album from James Murphy & co in over seven years as well as their first since their breakup and reunion. According to Billboard, American Dream also benefited from a bundled ticket-album promotion, as have many other 2017 releases.
After a week full of top ten arrivals last time around, LCD Soundsystem is the only major debut. Last week’s #1, Luv is Rage 2 from Lil Uzi Vert slips to #2, following by XXXTentacion (who is facing serious charges involving domestic violence, the details of which came to light this past week) with 17 at #3. DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar comes in at #4 and Khalid at #5 with American Teen.
The rest of the top ten is rounded out by Imagine Dragons at #6 (in part thanks to a sale in the iTunes Store), Kodak Black at #7, Logic at #8 (back in the top ten after a buzzed-about MTV VMA performance), SZA at #9 and Ed Sheeran at #10.
