Suicide Squad soundtrack
The Suicide Squad soundtrack spends its second week at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with another 93,000 equivalent album units during the week. Of this number, 50,000 were traditional album sales. Drake is at #2 with Views, followed by a debut from his own OVO Sound artist PARTYNEXTDOOR with PARTYNEXTDOOR 3 (P3) at #3. Country singer Justin Moore debuts at #4 with Kinda Don’t Care. Twenty One Pilots land at #5 with Blurryface followed by DJ Khaled at #6. The third top ten debut of the week comes from rap duo Rae Sremmurd at #7 with Sremmlife 2. The top ten is rounded out with Adele (#8), Rihanna (#9) and the Now 59 compilation (#10).
The lineup for Neil Young‘s 30th annual Bridge School Benefit charity concert has been unveiled. Metallica, Roger Waters, Dave Matthews, My Morning Jacket, Norah Jones, Cage The Elephant, case/lang/veirs, Willie Nelson and Nils Lofgren are all on board, along with Young and his Promise of the Real backing band. The Bridge School Benefit will be held on October 22 and 23 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA.
Controversial boy band manager Lou Pearlman passed away over the weekend in prison at the age of 62. Pearlman created the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, LFO, O-Town and many other Pop acts in the late ’90s. However, the majority of these groups ended up suing Pearlman for unfair contracts and payments. Pearlman was later revealed to have bankrolled his music biz success via a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme and soon after, was also accused of sexual misconduct against young men during his time creating boy bands. Pearlman had been serving a 25-year jail sentence since 2008.
Platinum-selling Atlanta rapper Future announced that he will perform at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. The performance will mark Future’s first appearance on the VMA stage. The 2016 VMAs will air live from Madison Square Garden for the first time ever this Sunday, August 28 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
3 Doors Down founding guitarist Matt Roberts has passed away at the age of 38. Roberts was a member of the band, best known for their 2000 hit single “Kryptonite,” from 1996 until 2012, when he left 3DD for health reasons. Roberts’ father told CNN that his son “had prescription drug addiction. He suffered greatly from anxiety,” however he thought Roberts “had beaten it all.”
Kings of Leon have begun teasing their next album on social media, which appears to be be titled Walls. It will be the follow-up to 2012’s Mechanical Bull. A new single is expected to land at radio in mid-September.
