“Music’s Biggest Night,” the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, belonged to Billie Eilish who won in all four major categories: Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Bad Guy,” Album of the Year for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Best New Artist.
Additionally, Eilish won for Best Pop Vocal Album and her brother FINNEAS won as Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, for his work on When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Eilish also performed alongside her brother on the piano on “When The Party’s Over.”
Other big winners included Lizzo, who opened the telecast with a performance of “Cuz I Love You”/”Truth Hurts” and would go on to win for Pop Solo Performance, Urban Contemporary Album and Traditional R&B Performance.
This year’s Grammy ceremony was held under multiple unusual circumstances. The Recording Academy has been mired in controversy in recent weeks, following the accusations surrounding the exit of CEO Deborah Dugan. Additionally, the ceremony was held mere hours after the shocking death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who played his entire career at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the Grammys were being held. Multiple artists paid tribute to Bryant throughout the night.
Alicia Keys was back this year to serve as host and took the stage with Boyz II Men “in the house that Kobe built,” delivering a few bars of “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday.” The Recording Academy couldn’t have asked for a better person to lift up everyone’s spirit.
The night also featured performances from the Jonas Brothers, Tyler, The Creator, Camila Cabello, Ariana Grande, Aerosmith & Run DMC, and Usher performing a tribute to Prince with Shelia E, Lil Nas X, Rosalia, Bonnie Raitt, and DJ Khaled.
Demi Lovato also made her triumphant return to the stage performing an emotional version of “Anyone.”
