Downtown Music Publishing has announced the appointment of Delmar Powell as Vice President of A&R. In his new role, Powell will be responsible for scouting and signing new artists, songwriters, and producers, as well as creating opportunities for Downtown clients and copyrights in the global marketplace. Powell will report to Downtown Senior Vice President and Head of A&R, North America, Andrew Gould.
“Delmar possesses an incredible passion for great artistry and songs,” said Gould. “We are very excited and fortunate to welcome him to the team.”
Prior to Downtown, Powell served as Director, A&R Urban at Republic Records. Reporting to Wendy Goldstein and Rob Stevenson, Powell signed and developed Marc E. Bassy — whose platinum single “You & Me” featuring G-Eazy surpassed over 300 million streams worldwide. While at Republic, Powell worked with artists such as Hailee Steinfeld, Kiana Lede, Natalie LaRose, Zendaya, and Adrian Marcel, among others. He also represented Republic as the A&R liaison for NBC’s hit TV series The Voice.
With a decade of experience in the music industry, Powell previously held positions at Atlantic Records, TVT Records, Jive Records, and managed multi-platinum singer-songwriter and producer Prince Chrishan “PC” (Right Now Sound), whom he discovered when PC was 17 and later signed to Warner Chappell Music Publishing. PC’s collaborations include Meek Mill’s “Dangerous” featuring Jeremih and PNB Rock, French Montana’s “No Stylist” featuring Drake, Chris Brown’s “Party” featuring Gucci Mane and Usher, Wiz Khalifa’s “Something New” featuring Ty Dolla Sign, and his independent certified-Gold release “Sin City” featuring Ty Dolla Sign.
