Which decade had the most impact on you musically and who were your favorite artists of that decade?
 Frankie V, KSSX: The Bad Boy era in the late 90s and early 2000! Biggie, Diddy and Ma$e.
Mike “OD” O’Donnell, WKRZ: Definitely the eighties and nineties. From both decades: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Backstreet Boys, definitely Alanis Morrissette. She came out right around the time BSB came out and I remember thinking Top 40 is back, especially after that rough start to the 90’s. I would have to say that one of the best songs ever recorded was MJ’s “Man In The Mirror.”
Jeff Hurley, WLAN: A lot of the Alternative music from the nineties. Pop was kind of dead until the late 90’s and came back in a big way, but the ALT stuff had the biggest impression on me. Bands like Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins.
Paul “Cubby” Bryant, WKTU: 1980’s hands down! Peter Gabriel, The Police, Madonna, Genesis, Tears For Fears. Chris Michaels, FM100: 80’s and 90’s for sure as I grew up running sound for my dad’s band. He played Classic Rock from the 80’s and early 90’s. My favorite artists were Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Garth Brooks, Santana, and even Blues Traveler are just a FEW of the many artists I loved from those two decades. JB King, KLUC: 1990s. Paula Abdul, Roxette, Milli Vanilli, Wilson Phillips, Michael Bolton.
Brian Mack, WXXL: I suppose if I could only pick one it would be the 60’s. So much was going on in the world back then: The Cold War, Civil Rights, Vietnam, and you can hear it in all the songs. I feel like today we have a lot of the same things going on in the world, yet music doesn’t play the same kind of front and center role as it once did. All of the songs were played with real instruments on reels…those guys COULD PLAY! The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Elvis, The Doors, Ronettes (and everything Phil Spector), Darlene Love, Jefferson Airplane, CCR, Sly Stone, Yardbirds, Simon & Garfunkel…and I can keep going! Rick Vaughn, Power 94.9: The 80’s: AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Men At Work, Van Halen, Billy Idol, and I got into Pink Floyd in the eighties.
Mike Miller, WZFT: 90s Dance to 2000s. From Stevie B, to *NSYNC to Boy II Men. Paul Kelly, WWAC: 80s! The Fixx, Huey Lewis & The News, Sting and The Police. Max Volume, KOZZ: The Sixties! The Sixties were a tumultuous time, often equated with being the “Civil War” of the 20th Century. The Beatles, The Stones, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Jimi Hendrix set the stage for all things to come!

 Mike McCoy, WNCI: The eighties and my favorite artists depends on the genre. Journey and Kansas (my first concert ever!). There were some ALT bands I liked after the decade like The Cure who started in the 80’s. On the R&B side: the later incarnation of New Edition, Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, Loose Ends. Dance: Afrika Bambaataa, Planet Soul, great song “Follow Me” by Alias. There was plenty of influence from the nineties as well.
Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: I’m a 90’s baby all the way. Matchbox Twenty, Nirvana, Ben Folds Five, Hootie, Pearl Jam, Third Eye Blind, Gin Blossoms…name a Pop / Rock or Grunge act and I’m in! Alex Tear, Y100: The 80’s with U2, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Pet Shop Boys, New Order…
Gina Gray, WERO: Mostly the seventies and eighties. Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles for sure, and from the 80’s it was all about Madonna, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Coldplay. I love those guys and that was the only nineties band I gravitated to. Kobi, WNRW/WLGX: Early 200s. Jay-Z and all the boy bands and female pop stars. It seemed like every format was booming. Heather Deluca, WSJO: Most definitely the 80s. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Debbie Gibson, Duran Duran were my peeps! Rob Roberts, WRQX: The 70’s: Tom Petty and Jackson Browne. The 90’s and 2K: Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and *NSYNC reset the Pop world and changed my life in the process at Y100.
Rod Phillips, iHeartMedia: 2000-2009, I didn’t know it at the time but the music from Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton and bands like Sugarland really pulled me into Country music, which now consumes my life personally and professionally. |
Mike McVay, Cumulus Media: The 80’s: Boston, Tom Petty, Yes and Van Halen.
Kobe, WWHT: A mixture of the 80’s and 90’s. Late eighties with Michael Jackson forming my Pop influence, and in the nineties I fell in love with Hip-Hop. Pretty much anyone who was on Yo! MTV Raps.
Java Joel, WAKS: The 80s. Great songwriting, interesting personalities, tons of variety. Loved Hall & Oates, Duran Duran, Grandmaster Flash, Prince, RUN-DMC.
Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: The 80s for sure: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Journey, Van Halen, Prince, Bryan Adams, U2, The Police, AC/DC, Phil Collins, Bon Jovi, Huey Lewis & The News, Def Leppard.
Twisted Todd, WTPT: ’80s all the way. From Duran Duran to Beastie Boys, Def Leppard to AC/DC, Metallica to Slayer. Not sure if I’d be a musician or working in radio had that decade not been what it was. Which is AWESOME!!!!
