Kendrick Lamar led the pack with nine nominations at Sunday night’s 68th Annual Grammy Awards from Los Angles, he won five, including Record of the Year and Best Melodic Rap Performance (with SZA) for “Luther,” Best Rap Album for GNX, Best Rap Song (“TV Off”) and Best Rap Performance (“Chains & Whips” – Clipse, Pusha T & Malice, f/Kendrick Lamar & Pharrell Williams). He went on to become the the rapper with the most awards in Grammy history topping Jay Z‘s 25 wins.
Song of the Year honors went to Billie Eilish and her co-writer brother, Finneas for “Wildflower.” Olivia Dean was named Best New Artist.
Bad Bunny accepted the night’s biggest award, Album of the Year, for Debí Tirar Más Fotos. He becomes the first Spanish-language artist to win the honor. He also won for Best Global Music Performance for “EoO.”
Other multiple winners included: Lady Gaga winning three as “Abracadabra” won for Best Dance Pop Recording, and Best Remixed Recording. Mayhem was honored as Best Pop Vocal Album.
Jelly Roll won Best Contemporary Country album for Beautifully Broken, Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Amen” with Shaboozy, and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Brandon Lake.
Leon Thomas scored Best R&B Album for Mutt, and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Vibes Don’t Lie.”
Kehlani won Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Folded”
The Cure took home Best Alternative Music Performance for “Alone,” and Best Alternative Music Album for Songs of a Lost World.
“Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters won Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Music’s Biggest Night kicked off with a high-energy performance of “APT.” by ROSÉ & Bruno Mars. Other performance highlights included Sabrina Carpenter (“Manchild”) and musical tributes to Ozzy Osbourne, D’Angelo, and Roberta Flack.
