With the Grammy’s airing on Sunday, if you were the producer what noteworthy changes would you make to the program and who would be your host?
Rich Davis, KDWB: A lot more performances from marquis artists and keeping it more mass appeal. For host I pick a (from way out of left field), Taylor Tomlinson. She’s a great young and relevant comedienne who recently took over the hosting role on the CBS late night show After Midnight. I became a fan from bits I’ve seen on social media and TikTok. Jana Sutter, WXXL: I would cut the chit-chap and add more performances. At this point, I would haveTravis and Taylor Swift co-host. Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: The Kelce brothers would host, and I would load it up with performances. Air only six awards presented, just the top categories. We don’t need all the speeches. I would encourage artists to perform unreleased songs again. I remember when I first started in radio, we would watch the Grammys because you knew you were going to hear some unreleased songs. Guy Zapoleon, Zapoleon Consulting: The Grammys must always be relevant to what’s happening in music today, celebrate the heritage of individual genres, and make sure the presentations, and especially the performances, move quickly with no dead time. Last year, I give them credit for the “Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop,” featuring some great classic Hop-Hop acts. This year they should celebrate the history of Country music as hot as that genre was in 2023. Adam Rivers, WKCI / WKSS: I’d like to see the show overall run at a quicker pace. Having Gronk &Michael Strahan hosting would be FUN! |
Brian Mack, iHeartMedia: I’ve always rather enjoyed their traditions. In terms of hosting, Jimmy Fallonalways makes a great, comical host while also being a music fan and lover himself. Buster, WIOQ: Try to find an actual audience that actually who cares about the Grammys or any award show. Other than that, broadcast it from a beach with drinks in hands where the audience can have some real fun! Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: I’d go for one of these three as hosts: John Mulaney, Chris Rock, Nate Bargatze. If all three turned me down, I wouldn’t use a host. One other noteworthy change, fewer awards and more performances.
Java Joel, WHBC: No virtue-signaling allowed and let’s stop making the presenters read awful jokes off the teleprompter. Hosts? Someone who’s funny with edge! Ricky Gervais, Dave Chapelle, Louis CK (we can un-cancel him now, right?), Joe Rogan. And (as much as I love Billy Joel), if you’re not nominated – you’re not allowed to perform. This is an awards show not a showcase for new music. Erik Bradley, B96: Make it shorter like a 2 hour show and really focus on big awards and performances. Chris Rock or Nate Bargatze would make great hosts. Bob Patrick, WXLK: The show definitely needs to come off less highbrow and formal. Not saying roll up to the Grammys in jeans and a hoodie but they really need to loosen up a bit. Dave Chappelle would be a great host. Rick Vaughn, KENZ: I’d watch it if Anna Kendricks was hosting. |
Brian Check, iHeartMedia: Our attention spans are going down and the Grammys still have too many nominees and too many categories. For the TV broadcast, it’s a lot to sit through. I think they’ve tried to cut back and condense a few times, but it seems to creep back up. As for hosts, Trevor Noah does a great job, but it would seem more appropriate to have a musician with big stage presence to do it, like Harry Styles orDrake. Jammer, WEZB: Just make sure the right people get the awards and have Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift‘s mom host it. Matt Johnson, WPLW: Rewrite the format from the ground up. Get someone like Lil Nas X and put the power in the host’s hands. Valentine, WBHT: Bigger and better performances and mind-melding colabs. Plus, shorter acceptance speeches. Maybe install a trap door and if they go over 60 seconds then get dropped down. Taylor andTravis should host, that’s an easy one! Toby Knapp, WASH: I’d do whatever our iHeartRadio Music Awards on FOX will do as best as they can, and my host would be Ryan Seacrest with Bobby Bones and cameo appearances from Ellen K and Elvis Duran, with special cutaways to the Red Carpet with Angi Taylor. I’d also kick it off with a live performance from *NSYNC or Taylor Swift but that’s just me. |
