What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?
Mike “OD” O’Donnell, WKRZ: The mission’s trip in 2019 to Haiti with Convoy of Hope. It was a life-changer for me. When it came up, I instantly felt, “I’m going to do that!” Everyone should do one of these, it really gives you perspective on life. Rick Vaughn, KENZ: Left Moscow, Idaho at 3am to drive to Vegas. Got there, bet one dollar in a slot machine, and then drove back. Josh Wolff, WAEB: I’m the opposite of spontaneous. The wildest thing I’ve done lately is try the cinnamon-bun coffee at Wawa. Drew Heyman, WHYI: I went skydiving for the first time about 6 months ago. Can’t wait to do it again!
Toby Knapp, WASH: Got a passport at the State Department in DC on a Wednesday, hopped a flight on Friday, broadcasted live from The Bahamas for WLDI-FM on a Saturday and Sunday, came back to work in time for PMD on Monday. Aside from randomly taking the overnight Amtrak from Chicago back to DC after a Morning Show Bootcamp or randomly driving up to Philly from DC with Grooves and WIHT-FM Creative Services director Darrin Marshall for a proper cheesesteak or driving to Market in Lancaster on a random day after the AM show just because, I’d say that’s most spontaneous. Jammer, WEZB: I went out to buy a sofa and bought a car! Jagger, KCHZ: I’m not really the most spontaneous person. |
Bartel. WKTU: Last minute flight to Minneapolis to see the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl! Matt Johnson, WPLW: When I was 23 years old, I won some money playing poker, and in the course of a week I spent it on a new car and an engagement ring for my wife to be. R Dub, Z90/Magic 92.5: Well, there was a little planning involved – but I once walked into my OM’s office and announced I was resigning and moving to Brazil, after ten years with the company. Jeff Hurley, iHeartMedia: Back in 2000, I took a job in Panama City, FL sight-unseen. Just talked on the phone and said “yes.” I had never left PA or NY, and suddenly I was packing a U-Haul and moving 1200 miles away without a place to live. Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: Recently nothing because spontaneity fades when you have a small child. Ever? I was pretty spontaneous when I was in college. Kobe, WUVR: Once as an intern I had to track down Elton John who had a show in Rochester. I went to airport, then a private airport, and by process of elimination I figured out his flight. Listeners came down and made signs, it turned out to be a big thing for the station and we even got TV coverage! Orlando, WLLD: Bought my first house, from a stripper, at MONS Venus! Was a helluva lap dance! |
Dom Theodore, Radio Animal Media Strategies: I’m a planner and don’t do a lot of spontaneous things. However, I will say that when my wife and I decided to get into station ownership, that was pretty spontaneous. The timing and the lighting were just right in our lives at that point. We got the construction permit for WCDY and launched a business alongside my consultancy business. Buster Satterfield, WIOQ: For my first radio gig at age 20, I took a bus from Detroit to Fresno, CA. Stayed at what was like a Radio Dorm. I lived in a house with like 5 other people with web cams everywhere for a year. It was a Jerry Clifton experiment well before its time, but I did learn all about radio, including how to schedule music. Fish, WKRZ: I built my house on a whim and it was the best decision I ever made!
Guy Zapoleon, Zapoleon Consultancy: I always had to plan everything in my life, work always came first, which made it hard to be spontaneous Slimfast, KRBZ: Sending this email. Max Volume, KOZZ: Being spontaneous is my trademark. I feel it’s going with your gut. If your brain tells you something that you feel in your gut, you should take it to heart. |
