Sam Smith‘s sophomore album The Thrill of It All debuts atop this week’s Billboard 200 chart with 237,000 equivalent album units, 185,000 were in traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music. It is Smith’s best sales week ever and his 237,000 units give him the seventh largest opening week of 2017.
Veteran pop band Maroon 5 debut at #2 with Red Pill Blues, the sixth top ten record of their career. Red Pill Blues earned 122,000 equivalent album units, 94,000 of which were in traditional album sales. Both Smith and Maroon 5 saw their totals boosted by the now-traditional ticket/album combos.
At #3 is Heartbreak on a Full Moon, the new double-album from Chris Brown. It debuted last week at #3 but with only three days of tracking data, as it was released on a Tuesday.
Blake Shelton debuts at #4 with Texoma Shore, giving the Country star his 11th top ten album. Billboard notes that it is the eighth year in a row Shelton has released a new album that has charted (including multiple best-of sets and a Christmas album).
21 Savage, Offset and Metro Boomin’s Without Warning is at #5. This surprise release also had only three days of tracking in its first week on the charts, when it debuted at #4. Last week’s #1 album Live in No Shoes Nation from Kenny Chesney slips to #6. Country singer Kelsea Ballerini has the fourth top ten debut this week, as her second record Unapologetically arrives at #7. And the fifth top ten debut comes from Kid Rock, whose newest album Sweet Southern Sugar lands at #8.
The top ten is rounded out by Post Malone at #9 and Ed Sheeran at #10.
