Cox Media Group (CMG) has named Rob Babin, currently CMG Miami Radio’s VP/General Manager, as CMG’s new Regional VP for Radio, reporting to Executive VP Bill Hendrich. Babin will oversee CMG’s Houston, Long Island, San Antonio and Tampa Radio markets, in addition to Miami. Ray Carter, currently CMG Pittsburgh’s VP/General Manager, is now CMG’s Regional VP for Television, reporting to EVP Jane Williams and will oversee CMG’s Boston, Charlotte, Memphis, and Seattle TV markets, in addition to Pittsburgh.
As RVPs, Babin and Carter will leverage their broadened view of our business to help ensure that their respective markets provide a better customer experience, meet CMG’s financial and customer targets and engage and motivate our employees about our CMG goals and objectives. They will be a business partner, collaborator and contributor to the team’s success in each market and will assist in solving local business issues, as well as enable and support a cohesive team driving business results. Additionally, they have experience in cultivating talent in CMG’s markets, always keeping an eye out for future leaders who can be developed within the company.
“During his career, Rob has been a strong leader for CMG in Orlando, Atlanta and Miami,” said Hendrich. “He has grown in leadership roles through his ability to hire and develop talented team members, create world-class work environments and deliver results. We are fortunate to have many talented leaders at CMG to consider for critical roles like this. Rob’s understanding of the opportunities ahead, his ability to make positive connections with people and his track record of delivering results equip him to do a fantastic job as our Regional VP.”
Under Babin’s leadership as VP/GM, CMG Miami Radio launched top-performing brand Hits 97.3. In addition, the CMG Miami team was awarded two National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Awards and two National Association of Broadcasters Service to America Awards for excellence in community service. During his 17-year career with CMG, Babin has held General Sales Manager roles at Orlando’s K92FM, Atlanta’s 97.1 The River and News 95.5 AM 750 WSB. Prior to his current role, Babin was Director of Sales for CMG Atlanta Radio.
“I look forward to partnering with our successful Market Managers and leaders across CMG Radio,” said Babin. “We have incredible brands and operations in each of our markets, thanks to our talented employees, which sets CMG apart from our competition.”
“Ray has been a leader with our Television division for 20 years,” said Williams. “He has a successful, proven track record and currently leads one of the top NBC affiliates in the country. As VP/GM Ray has led WPXI-TV to historical ratings and revenue heights. Ray’s passion for this industry is unparalleled, and he is the perfect leader to take advantage of all the new and exciting opportunities facing the television industry.”
Carter, a 30-year broadcast veteran, joined CMG and WPXI-TV, the NBC-affiliated station in Pittsburgh, as a General Manager in 2001. Before becoming a GM, he was the executive in charge of local news in several different media markets. Throughout his career, Carter also has worked as the News Director of local news operations in many markets, including Des Moines, Salt Lake City, and Atlanta.
“CMG has some of the finest television stations in the country,” said Carter. “To be able to work in concert with the CMG leadership teams in Boston, Charlotte, Memphis, Pittsburgh and Seattle, is an exciting proposition. Our industry is undergoing revolutionary change. I look forward to helping these different stations navigate a course toward continued and trusted leadership.”
