iHeartMedia Top 40 WRVW (107.5 the River)/Nashville is ready to Crash Your Campus with GAYLE but not without hitting some speed bumps.
Over the last two weeks high school students in Middle Tennessee have been encouraged to vote for their school during “Crash Your Campus,” a private event to be held at their school. After thousands of votes, 107.5 the River was ecstatic to team up with GAYLE to announce a winner and create a fun, clean event at the winning school. The goal was to help you escape for a few minutes and reward you for making so many sacrifices the last two years – missing school dances and sporting events, attending virtual classes, losing valuable high school memories.
Unfortunately, as the station tallied the votes and began contacting potential winning schools, they were quickly rejected. The stations posted a note on social media which stated, “In our attempts to bring GAYLE to your high school. Despite GAYLE agreeing to perform clean, radio and school-friendly versions of her music, we were told she would not be welcome. Some school officials refused to acknowledge our contact. Others dismissed our radio station and the music you enjoy as “vulgar,” “classless,” “appalling,” and “unfit,” among other choice terms. We were shamed for wanting to bring some joy to your day.”
The station did invite feedback from several school officials privately before even launching the event.
Now the event is still a go! The station’s post continued, “We at 107.5 the River heard you, we respect you, and we refuse to stand by while your school lets you down!! We worked tirelessly with GAYLE’S amazing management team, as they were heartbroken over the school’s decisions as well. So, on this Monday, March 7th, we’re letting you crash OUR campus. GAYLE will still be performing a small set for high school students at The High Watt at 4:00pm. If you are a student at ANY of our top four vote-getting schools, you are invited to attend. That includes students from Blackman High, Wilson Central, John Overton, or Riverdale.”
The station concluded its post with, “Live life, love music, and sing your freakin heart out. And your principals can’t do a thing about it… and thank you for being the best listeners in the world!”
