Beasley Media Group announces that Matt Cord has been named midday host at Classic Rock WMGK/Philadelphia. Cord made the announcement about his new shift during an on-air crossover conversation with ‘MGK morning personality John DeBella this morning.
“I’m so thrilled to continue Debbi Calton’s incredible legacy with the WMGK workplace audience,” said Cord. “I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Philly radio legend John DeBella and longtime afternoon drive personality Andre Gardner!”
Cord is no stranger to the Philadelphia radio scene. The 30-year market veteran’s career includes serving as Morning Host on Beasley Media Group’s sister station 95.7 WBEN as well as spending an additional 20 years split between working on the air doing evenings and afternoons on WMMR. Previously, he was the afternoon drive host at WPLY (Y100). Cord began his career at Long Island’s WBLI-FM in 1988.
“We were so fortunate when Matt became available,” said WMGK PD Bill Weston. “I think the stars aligned so I could replace one radio legend with another. Matt’s personality, combined with his passion for classic rock, love of radio and dedication to our loyal fans, made him the perfect choice to take over middays on the station!”
Cord replaces legendary midday personality Debbi Calton, who recently retired on December 6, 2019, after spending 26 years hosting the midday shift on WMGK. The Matt Cord Show will offer new features and contests in the coming months, including Matt’s Play of the Day and Grand Cash Railroad, as well as continue to showcase popular on-air features, including Connect 3 and Noontime Nuggets.
